St Joseph’s Care Centre in Longford and St Loman’s Hospital in Mullingar are recruiting for Maintenance Craftsman Technician Carpenter positions within HSE Dublin and Midlands. These permanent, whole-time roles offer experienced craftspeople the opportunity to support essential building maintenance, infrastructure and technical services in busy healthcare environments.

Role Overview

The Maintenance Craftsman Technician Carpenter will contribute to the effective maintenance and operation of healthcare buildings and associated systems. The successful candidates will apply practical trade expertise to help maintain safe, reliable and functional environments for patients, service users, staff and visitors.

There is currently one permanent, whole-time vacancy at St Joseph’s Care Centre, Co. Longford, under post reference MAINT217838, and one permanent, whole-time vacancy at St Loman’s Hospital, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, under post reference MAINT222295.

A panel may be formed from this campaign for the Dublin Midlands Region, from which current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration may be filled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance and craft duties associated with buildings and facilities in a healthcare environment.
  • Support the safe and effective operation of building systems relevant to the role.
  • Identify maintenance requirements and contribute to timely repairs and preventative maintenance work.
  • Work effectively within healthcare facilities where safety, reliability and continuity of services are essential.
  • Follow applicable health and safety procedures, work practices and service requirements.
  • Operate HSE-owned vehicles where required as part of the duties of the post.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience working in industrial or domestic-type buildings and/or a healthcare environment, as relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience with building systems as applied to the healthcare environment, as relevant to the role.
  • Have successfully completed the SOLAS Safe Pass Health and Safety Awareness Training Programme or an equivalent approved training programme in line with service need.
  • Candidates who have not completed the required Safe Pass training will be required to successfully complete the training on taking up the post.
  • As the role may involve driving HSE-owned vehicles, the successful candidate is required to hold a full clean Category B driving licence.

Salary

€42,486 – €48,853 per annum (HSE Maintenance Craftsman/Technician Paypath scale, 11-point scale), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

Location

The current vacancies are based at St Joseph’s Care Centre, Co. Longford, and St Loman’s Hospital, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. These roles support the maintenance and reliability of healthcare facilities where well-maintained buildings and systems contribute directly to safe and effective service delivery.

The wider campaign covers the HSE Dublin and Midlands Region, including Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Kildare and parts of Dublin South and Wicklow.

Contract Type

Permanent, whole-time. A regional panel may also be formed to fill current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration.
