About the Role

Galway University Hospitals (GUH), part of the HSE West and North West region, is recruiting a Maintenance Foreman, Assistant (Cúntóir Maor Cothabhála) to join its dynamic Estates and Facilities Department.
This role plays a vital part in maintaining the safety, functionality, and operational efficiency of hospital facilities, ensuring a high-quality environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

You’ll assist in the supervision of maintenance staff and contractors across multiple hospital buildings, supporting essential maintenance, refurbishment, and capital improvement projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance operations, ensuring all work meets HSE safety and quality standards.
  • Plan, allocate, and oversee tasks for technical and maintenance personnel.
  • Monitor and maintain mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are implemented effectively.
  • Support building projects, renovations, and minor capital works.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and reports.
  • Liaise with contractors, Estates teams, and department managers to resolve maintenance issues promptly.
  • Promote and uphold HSE health and safety standards across all worksites.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience managing maintenance staff and building projects.
  • Full, unendorsed Class B driving licence (valid in Ireland).
  • Successful completion of the Solas Safe Pass Health & Safety Awareness Training Programme or equivalent approved training.

Desirable

  • Experience in a hospital or large healthcare environment.
  • Strong understanding of HSE maintenance protocols and public-sector building regulations.
  • Proven record of managing multiple maintenance teams or facilities.

What We Offer

  • Salary (per HSE Consolidated Scales, effective 1 August 2025):
    €53,223 – €61,127 per annum, plus Long Service Increment (€62,701 after 3 years on max).
