About the Role
The HSE Dublin and North East Region is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Aide to join the Pathology Department at Cavan Monaghan Hospital. This is a key support role within the hospital’s diagnostic services, contributing to accurate, timely analysis and safe sample handling.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play an essential role in maintaining laboratory workflow, assisting medical scientists, and ensuring compliance with national quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, and prepare patient samples for testing.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment, consumables, and stock levels.
- Ensure proper handling, transport, and disposal of specimens in line with infection control standards.
- Support scientists and technicians in daily testing and analysis routines.
- Accurately record and input sample data using the hospital’s laboratory information system.
- Adhere to HSE quality management protocols and participate in internal audits.
- Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of workstations and storage areas.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in a laboratory environment, including sample receipt and preparation.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and data management.
- Proven flexibility in service provision, with the ability to support changing departmental needs.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Desirable
- Familiarity with ISO 15189-accredited laboratory practices.
- Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in basic IT applications (LIMS, Excel, MS Office).
