Letterkenny University Hospital, a leading acute care facility in HSE West and North West, is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager 1 to join our specialized Coronary Care Unit (CCU) team in Letterkenny, County Donegal. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to lead cardiac nursing excellence in our state-of-the-art coronary care facility.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Clinical Nurse Manager 1 to provide clinical leadership and management oversight within our Coronary Care Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital. You will be responsible for managing nursing staff, ensuring optimal patient care delivery for cardiac patients, and maintaining the highest standards of coronary care nursing practice. This role reports directly to the Assistant Director of Nursing, Medical Directorate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage nursing staff within the Coronary Care Unit, ensuring appropriate skill mix and safe staffing levels for cardiac patient care
- Oversee clinical governance and quality assurance processes specific to coronary care nursing standards and cardiac monitoring protocols
- Coordinate patient care planning for acute cardiac conditions, working collaboratively with cardiology consultants and multidisciplinary cardiac teams
- Manage staff scheduling and deployment to ensure 24/7 coverage of specialized coronary care services and cardiac emergency response
- Implement evidence-based coronary care protocols and ensure compliance with national cardiac care guidelines and HSE standards
- Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to nursing staff in advanced cardiac life support, hemodynamic monitoring, and cardiac intervention care
- Participate in cardiac emergency responses and coordinate with cardiac catheterization lab and emergency departments for urgent interventions
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) with active PIN
- Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience with substantial coronary care or cardiac nursing background
- Previous experience in intensive care, coronary care unit, or cardiac specialty nursing environment
- Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience in acute care settings
- Strong understanding of cardiac monitoring systems, hemodynamic assessment, and cardiac interventions
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in Cardiac/Intensive Care Nursing or related specialty
- Previous management or supervisory experience in coronary care or cardiac units
- Experience with cardiac catheterization procedures and post-intervention care
- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies in cardiac care settings
- Additional certifications in cardiac specialty areas (IABP, temporary pacing, etc.)
