Join Mayo University Hospital, part of HSE West and North West, as a Paediatric Staff Nurse (Children’s Staff Nurse Grade 2136) in the Emergency Department. This is a permanent, wholetime opportunity to make a meaningful difference in paediatric acute care.
About the Role
As a Paediatric Staff Nurse, you’ll provide high-quality, family-centred care to children presenting to the Emergency Department. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in line with HSE clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based paediatric nursing care in an acute emergency environment.
- Perform and document patient assessments, observations, and interventions.
- Administer medication safely in accordance with policy.
- Maintain accurate records and participate in audits.
- Support clinical governance, risk management, and health & safety practices.
- Contribute to ward organisation and staff coordination.
- Engage in professional development and mentoring of junior staff.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Children’s Nurse (RCN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of paediatric procedures, clinical interventions, and medication management.
Preferred
- Previous Emergency Department experience.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in paediatric or emergency care.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
