The Health Service Executive (HSE) South West is seeking an exceptional Professor Consultant Cardiologist to join Cork University Hospital (CUH) and the University College Cork (UCC) School of Medicine. This is a prestigious dual role combining advanced clinical cardiology with academic leadership in medical education and research.
Job Overview
This permanent whole-time position is divided equally between Cork University Hospital (18.5 hours) and University College Cork (18.5 hours). The successful candidate will deliver expert cardiology care, mentor the next generation of medical professionals, and contribute to groundbreaking cardiovascular research.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist cardiology services to patients at Cork University Hospital.
- Deliver academic leadership within the UCC School of Medicine.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, ensuring excellence in teaching and mentorship.
- Engage in innovative clinical research in cardiology, publishing findings in high-impact journals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance cardiovascular care across the HSE South West region.
- Support the development of evidence-based clinical pathways and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Qualifications
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Irish Medical Council (Specialist Division – Cardiology).
- Extensive experience as a Consultant Cardiologist, with a strong clinical and academic record.
- Proven leadership in medical education, curriculum development, and mentorship.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and publish peer-reviewed cardiology research.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training or equivalent international cardiology experience.
- Strong record of collaboration across academic, clinical, and research settings.
- Experience in clinical trials, translational research, or cardiovascular innovation.
