The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking an experienced Risk Officer to join our dynamic risk management team at University Hospital Waterford. As Risk Officer, you’ll lead critical risk management initiatives across our hospital operations, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and organizational excellence. You’ll work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment while developing comprehensive risk strategies that protect both patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead risk assessment processes across clinical and non-clinical hospital departments
- Develop and implement comprehensive risk management policies and procedures
- Collaborate with clinical teams to identify, evaluate and mitigate potential risks
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards, statutory requirements and regulatory frameworks
- Conduct incident investigations and prepare detailed risk analysis reports
- Deliver risk management training to healthcare professionals and support staff
- Monitor risk indicators and provide strategic recommendations to senior management
Essential Qualifications
Education: Third-level qualification in Risk Management, Healthcare Management, Business Administration or related field
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years in risk management within healthcare or regulated environment
- Proven track record in policy development and implementation
- Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency in risk management software and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and quality standards
Certifications: Professional risk management qualification (IRM, IIMS or equivalent) preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced risk management certifications or postgraduate qualifications
- Experience with healthcare accreditation processes (HIQA standards)
- Leadership or supervisory experience in healthcare settings
- Project management qualifications or demonstrable experience
- Knowledge of clinical governance and patient safety frameworks

Salary: ā¬56,757 – ā¬69,341 per annum (HSE Grade VI scale)
