About the Role

St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny is inviting applications for the position of Senior Dietitian (Hepatology & Gastroenterology) within the HSE Dublin and South East region.
This post presents a rewarding opportunity to join a multidisciplinary clinical team supporting patients with Coeliac disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and other gastroenterological conditions. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the assessment, planning, and delivery of evidence-based nutritional interventions in a busy acute hospital setting.

This appointment is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants who meet the essential qualification and experience requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist dietetic assessment and management for patients with hepatology and gastroenterological conditions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of nutrition care plans as part of multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Support nutrition education programmes for patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate closely with consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with HSE policy.
  • Supervise and mentor junior dietitians and student placements as required.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Hold a recognised BSc or MSc in Dietetics (or equivalent qualification validated by CORU).
  • Be registered, or eligible for registration, with CORU as a Dietitian.
  • Have a minimum of three years’ full-time (or equivalent) post-qualification clinical experience, with demonstrated competence in acute hospital dietetics.
  • Proven experience working with patients with hepatology and gastroenterology conditions such as Coeliac disease, IBD, and IBS.
  • Demonstrated flexibility regarding working hours to meet service demands.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient advocacy skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in HSE hospital settings.
  • Participation in service development or dietetic research.
  • Experience delivering specialist outpatient clinics and educational programmes.

What We Offer

    Senior Dietitian (Grade Code 3395) — €60,000 to €70,000 per annum (approx., based on current DoH Circular 6/2025 rates).
