University Hospital Waterford is seeking a dedicated Senior House Officer specializing in ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) for our renowned ENT department in Waterford. This fixed-term wholetime opportunity offers excellent clinical experience and professional development in a leading Irish hospital.

About the Role

As ENT Senior House Officer, you’ll provide specialist medical care within our busy ENT department at University Hospital Waterford. You’ll manage acute and elective ENT conditions while working alongside consultant ENT surgeons and the multidisciplinary team. This role reports to the Consultant ENT Surgeon and offers valuable surgical and clinical experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead acute ENT patient assessments and emergency consultations
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for ENT surgical patients
  • Collaborate with ENT consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals
  • Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and patient safety protocols
  • Develop clinical skills in ENT surgery and specialist procedures
  • Participate in on-call rotas and emergency ENT services
  • Contribute to clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives

Essential Qualifications

Education: Primary Medical Degree (MB BCh BAO or equivalent) recognized by the Medical Council of Ireland
Experience: Minimum 1 year post-graduate medical experience
Registration: Full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland or eligibility for registration
Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, ability to work under pressure, excellent communication abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous ENT or surgical experience
  • ATLS certification
  • Experience with ENT emergency procedures
  • Research experience in otolaryngology
  • Additional surgical training or qualifications
