The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is inviting applications for a Senior House Officer (SHO) in Ophthalmology at University Hospital Limerick, serving the counties of Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary. This is a fixed-term, wholetime post within the Medical and Dental category, ideal for doctors seeking experience in hospital ophthalmology within Ireland’s public health system.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day medical care to ophthalmology patients under consultant supervision.
- Assist in outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and minor ophthalmic procedures.
- Participate in the ophthalmology on-call rota as scheduled.
- Maintain accurate medical records and patient documentation.
- Contribute to clinical audits, departmental teaching, and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Support hospital policies in patient safety, infection control, and clinical governance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council.
- Previous hospital experience in Ophthalmology or related specialties preferred.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centred care.
- Eligible to work in the HSE under current employment regulations.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary Scale (effective 1 August 2025):
€54,203 – €74,133 per annum (7-point SHO scale, Circular 6/2025). - Employment Type: Fixed Term, Wholetime.
- Working Hours: 39 hours per week plus on-call as rostered.
- Benefits: Public sector pension, annual leave per HSE terms, and training supports.
