This fixed-term Senior House Officer/Registrar position offers the opportunity to gain significant clinical experience in General Adult Psychiatry while working within multidisciplinary teams that promote recovery and patient-centred care.

About the Role

This post is based within Cork Mental Health Services (South West region), serving communities across South Lee, North Lee, North Cork, and West Cork. Successful candidates will work under consultant supervision in general adult psychiatry settings, contributing to inpatient and community-based care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychiatric assessments and ongoing management of adult patients.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and treatment planning.
  • Deliver high-quality documentation and clinical reports.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of medical students.
  • Participate in on-call rota and emergency psychiatric services.
  • Engage in audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with HSE policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
  • Demonstrated experience in psychiatry or a related medical field.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Interest in academic or research activities within mental health.

Salary:
According to HSE Consolidated Pay Scales (effective 1 August 2025):

  • Senior House Officer (Grade Code 1012): €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (7 points).
  • Registrar (Grade Code 1538): €68,891 – €81,126 per annum (6 points).
