About the Role

The Senior Medical Officer (Community Child Health) will provide clinical expertise in the assessment, management, and follow-up of children and young people within the community health setting. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will lead and contribute to immunisation programmes, child health surveillance, and developmental assessment services across the designated geographic area.

The role requires the ability to travel independently across the Louth and Meath area to meet the operational requirements of the service.

  • Deliver community-based child health and immunisation services across Louth and Meath in line with HSE national programmes and guidelines.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in the delivery of community-based child health and immunisation services.

  • Membership of the Faculty of Paediatrics (MRCPI) or equivalent postgraduate qualification desirable.
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary community or primary care teams.
  • Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role (essential).

Salary

This post is remunerated in accordance with the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026 (DoH Circular 2/2026). The salary for the Senior Medical Officer (grade 183T) is as follows:

€97,771 – €111,740 per annum (6-point scale), plus two Long Service Increments (LSIs) at €114,344 and €116,950 payable after qualifying service at the maximum point.

As this is a part-time post, salary is paid pro-rata in line with contracted hours.

Location

The post is based across County Louth and County Meath, operating within the HSE Dublin and North East region. Services are delivered through community health clinics and primary care centres across both counties. The post-holder will be required to travel between sites as part of the role.
