Letterkenny University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region, is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Scientist (Biochemistry) to join its Pathology Department. This permanent, wholetime position offers the opportunity to advance within a dynamic laboratory service supporting patient care across Donegal.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee daily operations within the Biochemistry laboratory.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff and trainee scientists.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 standards and HSE laboratory protocols.
- Participate in quality assurance, method validation, and audit processes.
- Collaborate closely with clinicians to provide timely and accurate biochemical results.
- Contribute to service development and implementation of new diagnostic technologies.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent).
- CORU registration (or eligibility) as a Medical Scientist.
- Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience, including relevant biochemistry work.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience within a healthcare laboratory.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Medical Scientist – Senior (Code 3877)
- Salary Scale (from 1 August 2025): €60,130 – €75,861 per annum (per HSE consolidated pay scales).
- Contract Type: Permanent, Wholetime.
- Comprehensive HSE pension and annual leave entitlements apply.
- Standard full-time hours per HSE laboratory staffing framework.
