Join HSE Dublin and North East, serving communities across North Dublin, Meath, Louth, Cavan, and Monaghan. We are seeking a Senior Medical Scientist to deliver high-quality diagnostic and laboratory services across Haematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and Louth County Hospital.
About the Role
As a Senior Medical Scientist (Grade 3877), you will lead and contribute to an efficient, quality-driven laboratory service supporting consultants, clinicians, and community healthcare teams. You’ll apply advanced diagnostic techniques across multiple scientific disciplines to ensure patient safety and accurate reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex testing in Haematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology.
- Maintain and verify quality control systems in compliance with accreditation standards.
- Supervise and mentor junior scientists and laboratory staff.
- Participate in audit, validation, and method development initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention, health & safety, and data protection protocols.
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues to support diagnostic and treatment decisions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and service development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with CORU.
- Minimum 4 years’ post-qualification experience in a medical laboratory.
- Strong analytical and quality assurance skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred
- Experience in multiple disciplines, ideally including Haematology, Biochemistry, or Microbiology.
- Experience in a hospital or public health laboratory environment.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant specialty.
