About the Role
Our Senior Medical Social Worker Roscommon position requires an experienced professional to provide expert social work services within our psychiatric care team. You’ll work in our modern Acute Admissions Unit, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support patients and families during critical periods of mental health treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients admitted to the psychiatric unit
- Provide individual and family counseling services for mental health patients and their families
- Develop and implement discharge planning in collaboration with medical and nursing staff
- Advocate professionally for service users’ rights and needs within the healthcare system
- Collaborate effectively with external agencies and community mental health services
- Maintain accurate case records and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
- Provide crisis intervention and support during psychiatric emergencies
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- CORU registration as a Social Worker with current practicing certificate
- Degree in Social Work (Level 8) or Master’s in Social Work qualification
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in medical or psychiatric social work
- Demonstrated experience in mental health assessment and intervention techniques
- Strong advocacy skills and experience working with vulnerable populations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary teamwork
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional qualification in mental health or medical social work
- Experience working in acute psychiatric or medical hospital settings
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act 2001 and relevant healthcare legislation
- Experience with discharge planning and community liaison work
- Continuing professional development in mental health interventions
