About the Role
The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will deliver specialist assessment and intervention services to adults and children presenting with communication and/or feeding, eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties (FEDS). Successful candidates will join multidisciplinary teams supporting clients across acute, community, and rehabilitation care pathways within the HSE South West region.
This role requires a high degree of clinical autonomy, professional judgment, and inter-professional collaboration. Posts are available on both whole-time and part-time bases, including permanent and specified purpose contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders across varied caseloads.
- Deliver evidence-based therapy programmes and contribute to person-centred care plans.
- Provide leadership and supervision to basic-grade Speech and Language Therapists and students.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across acute and community services.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and participate in service audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of local HSE communication and dysphagia policies.
- Engage in continuous professional development in line with IASLT and CORU standards.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by CORU.
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) on the Speech and Language Therapists Register maintained by CORU.
- Demonstrated clinical experience relevant to the post, including assessment and intervention for both adults and children.
- Proven skills in multidisciplinary collaboration and caseload management.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification or training in dysphagia management.
- Experience working in HSE or equivalent public health settings.
- Full clean driving licence and access to transport (for community-based roles).
