Social Care Worker – Disability Services – Galway | Brothers of Charity Services Ireland

Brothers of Charity Services Ireland is a leading provider of disability services across Ireland, committed to enabling people with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful lives. We are seeking dedicated Social Care Workers to join our Disability Services team in Galway City for permanent positions (2 full-time, 1 part-time).

About the Role

As a Social Care Worker in our Disability Services team, you will provide person-centered support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting their independence, dignity, and quality of life. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care and support services that empower service users to achieve their personal goals and participate fully in community life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in residential or day service settings
  • Develop and implement person-centered support plans in collaboration with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support service users with daily living skills, social interaction, and community participation activities
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with HIQA standards and organizational policies
  • Advocate for service users’ rights and preferences while ensuring their safety and wellbeing
  • Facilitate meaningful activities that promote personal development, social inclusion, and independence
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, families, and external agencies to ensure holistic care delivery

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Level 7 qualification in Social Care, Applied Social Studies, or equivalent recognized qualification
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or similar client group
  • Understanding of person-centered approaches and rights-based service delivery
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including Disability Act 2005, Mental Health Act 2001, and safeguarding procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in residential or day services for people with intellectual disabilities
  • Knowledge of HIQA standards and quality frameworks
  • Experience in developing and implementing support plans
  • Training in challenging behavior support, medication administration, or specialized care approaches
