We are seeking a highly experienced Social Worker, Senior Medical to join our Acute Admissions Unit (Psychiatric) at Roscommon Hospital, offering a permanent wholetime position in a dynamic mental health care environment.
About the Role
This senior medical social work position offers an exciting opportunity to work within our specialized psychiatric unit, providing expert social work services to patients experiencing acute mental health episodes. You will play a crucial role in patient care, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive treatment and support for service users and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients admitted to the Acute Psychiatric Unit
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with psychiatrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Provide professional advocacy on behalf of service users, ensuring their rights and needs are represented throughout their care journey
- Facilitate discharge planning and coordinate community support services for patients transitioning from acute care
- Engage with families and carers to provide support, education, and guidance throughout the treatment process
- Collaborate effectively with external agencies and community services to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain detailed case records and documentation in accordance with HSE policies and professional standards
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- National Social Workers Registration Board (NSWRB) registration
- Minimum of 3+ years post-qualification social work experience in healthcare settings
- Demonstrated experience in mental health and psychiatric care environments
- Strong advocacy skills with proven ability to represent service users’ interests
- Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary teamwork
- Understanding of mental health legislation and relevant healthcare policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized training or certification in mental health social work
- Experience working specifically in acute psychiatric or inpatient mental health settings
- Knowledge of community mental health services and discharge planning processes
- Additional qualifications in counseling, therapy, or mental health specializations
