HSE West and North West is inviting applications for the position of Speech and Language Therapist, Staff Grade, with a panel to be formed for permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full-time and part-time duration across the region. This is a key clinical role delivering speech and language therapy services across both community and acute health settings in the West and North West of Ireland.
About the Role
The Speech and Language Therapist, Staff Grade, plays a central role in both community and acute health services, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support service users with communication, speech, language, and swallowing needs. A panel will be formed as a result of this campaign, from which current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies — of full or part-time duration — may be filled across HSE West and North West. Individual sites and locations will be confirmed at the expression of interest stage for each panel member.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and deliver evidence-based treatment for individuals with speech, language, communication, and swallowing (dysphagia) difficulties
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team across community and/or acute care settings
- Develop and implement individualised therapy and intervention plans in line with best practice
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with HSE and CORU standards
- Provide advice, education, and support to service users, families, and carers
- Participate in continuing professional development, clinical supervision, and service planning as required
Requirements / Qualifications
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Speech and Language Therapist with CORU (Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board)
- Relevant recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
- Candidates should possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of clinical, technical, and professional knowledge appropriate to the role
- Full clean driving licence may be required depending on assigned location, given the community-based nature of some posts

Salary
€45,514 – €63,831 per annum (HSE Speech and Language Therapist, Grade Code 336Y, 14-point scale, plus one Long Service Increment of €65,068), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026 (DoH Circular 2/2026). Salary is pro-rata for part-time and specified purpose part-time positions.
Location
This panel covers HSE West and North West, spanning counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway. Speech and language therapy services in this region operate across a wide network of community and acute sites, offering successful candidates broad exposure to diverse caseloads and care settings. Individual site and location assignments will be indicated to panel members at the expression of interest stage for each specific vacancy.
