Brothers of Charity Services Ireland is a leading provider of support services for people with intellectual disabilities across Ireland. We are seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse (Enhanced Nurse) to join our specialized intellectual disability services team in Galway City. This is a permanent full-time position offering the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
About the Role
This Staff Nurse position focuses specifically on providing nursing care within our intellectual disability services, working with individuals who have complex care needs. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering person-centered care and support to service users in our Galway facilities. The role reports to the Area Manager and involves both clinical and developmental responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adults with intellectual disabilities in residential and day service settings
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments and develop individualized care plans for service users
- Administer medications safely and monitor health conditions in accordance with nursing standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including doctors, therapists, and support workers to ensure holistic care
- Support service users with complex medical conditions and coordinate specialist healthcare appointments
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and care records in line with regulatory requirements
- Provide training and guidance to care staff on health-related matters and best practices
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Staff Nurse
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification nursing experience, preferably in intellectual disability services
- Strong clinical assessment and care planning skills
- Current knowledge of medication management and clinical governance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with people with intellectual disabilities
- Additional training in intellectual disability nursing or related specialties
- Experience working in community-based healthcare settings
- Knowledge of person-centered care approaches and positive behavior support
