Staff Nurse – Intellectual Disability – Cavan Monaghan | HSE

HSE Dublin and North East is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Intellectual Disability Services team in Cavan Monaghan. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to provide specialized nursing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities in a supportive, person-centered environment.

About the Role

We are looking for a qualified Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse to deliver high-quality nursing care within our disability services. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting their independence, dignity, and quality of life. This role reports to the Director of Nursing and offers excellent opportunities for professional development in specialized disability care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Administer medications safely and manage complex health needs in accordance with best practice guidelines
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including doctors, therapists, social workers, and support staff to deliver person-centered care
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that promote independence and quality of life
  • Monitor and document health status changes, ensuring timely intervention and communication with healthcare professionals
  • Support individuals and families through health education and advocacy within the intellectual disability context
  • Maintain accurate nursing records and ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) as a Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse
  • Minimum 2-3 years post-qualification experience in intellectual disability nursing or related field
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual disability care principles, person-centered approaches, and rights-based practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with individuals with varying communication needs
  • Current CPR certification and willingness to complete mandatory training programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional post-graduate qualifications in intellectual disability, mental health, or specialized nursing areas
  • Experience working within HSE disability services or similar community-based settings
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and adaptive communication methods
  • Training in positive behavior support, safeguarding, and human rights approaches
