HSE Dublin and North East is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurse for Intellectual Disability Services in Cavan Monaghan. About the Role

We are looking for a newly qualified nurse to join our Intellectual Disability Services team in Cavan Monaghan. This Staff Nurse (Awaiting Registration) position offers comprehensive support and mentorship as you transition from graduate to registered professional, working directly with individuals who have intellectual disabilities in a person-centered care environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities in accordance with their individual care plans and nursing best practices
  • Assist in developing and implementing person-centered care plans that promote independence, dignity, and quality of life
  • Monitor and document health status, medication administration, and behavioral observations for individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including doctors, therapists, psychologists, and social workers to ensure holistic care delivery
  • Support individuals with daily living activities while promoting maximum independence and choice
  • Participate in risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures for vulnerable individuals
  • Provide family education and support regarding intellectual disability care and management
  • Maintain accurate nursing documentation and contribute to care plan reviews and evaluations

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent nursing qualification recognized by NMBI)
  • Eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Knowledge of intellectual disability care principles and person-centered approaches
  • Understanding of medication administration and health monitoring for individuals with complex needs
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work with individuals with varying communication abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience or clinical placement in intellectual disability services or mental health settings
  • Knowledge of assistive communication techniques and behavioral support strategies
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and advocacy for vulnerable adults
  • Familiarity with HSE policies and procedures for intellectual disability services
