About the Role
This Staff Nurse Phlebotomy Dublin position offers an exciting opportunity to work with Ireland’s leading children’s hospital. You’ll be working within our specialized metabolic unit, providing expert phlebotomy services to pediatric patients while delivering compassionate, family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specialized phlebotomy procedures for pediatric patients with varying metabolic conditions
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure sample integrity for laboratory analysis
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including CNMs, medical consultants, and laboratory staff
- Provide family education and support during blood collection procedures
- Follow strict infection control protocols and maintain sterile technique standards
- Support metabolic screening programs and clinical research initiatives
- Mentor junior staff and student nurses in phlebotomy best practices
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Valid NMBI registration as a Staff Nurse (Pin Number required)
- Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in acute healthcare setting
- Demonstrated competency in pediatric phlebotomy techniques
- Experience working with children and families in healthcare environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of infection control and health & safety procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in pediatric nursing or related field
- Previous experience in metabolic or specialized pediatric units
- Training in difficult blood sampling techniques for pediatric patients
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Experience with venipuncture in neonates and infants
