About the Role
We are seeking an experienced administrator for our Staff Officer Grade V Sligo position. This role requires excellent leadership skills, administrative expertise, and the ability to manage teams effectively within our local authority environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality public services to the community of Sligo.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage a work area, section, or team within the Council
- Support line managers in implementing departmental work programmes
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and correspondence
- Represent the department at meetings and committees
- Manage day-to-day resources and identify service improvement opportunities
- Support change management initiatives and corporate activities
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Irish Leaving Certificate with Grade D in 5 subjects including Irish/English and Mathematics, Accounting, Business Organisation or Economics
- Alternative: Third-level qualification (Level 7 minimum) or equivalent examination standard
- Full driving licence (Class B) and access to a vehicle for official duties
- Excellent administrative and supervisory experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Local authority or public sector experience (minimum 2 years for confined competitions)
- Knowledge of local government structure and functions
- Experience in team leadership and staff supervision
- Report writing and presentation skills
- ICT systems proficiency

- Panel C: Confined to Sligo County Council employees
Selection will be by competitive interview conducted in person. Successful candidates may be subject to Garda vetting, medical examination, and satisfactory references.
