Join Shannondoc, the Mid-West’s Out-of-Hours GP Urgent Care Service, as a Telephone Triage Nurse supporting patients through a blended / hybrid work model in Limerick. About the Role
As a Telephone Triage Nurse, you will assess patient symptoms remotely using clinical software, your nursing expertise, and established protocols to ensure safe and effective patient care. You’ll work both on-site at Shannondoc’s Central Call Centre in St. Camillus Hospital, Limerick, and remotely, providing responsive care advice to the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide telephone-based clinical assessment and advice in line with Shannondoc protocols and clinical software.
- Determine the urgency of patients’ medical needs and guide them to the most appropriate care level (GP, ED, ambulance, nurse advice).
- Maintain detailed and accurate nursing records and documentation.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Adhere to NMBI’s Code of Professional Conduct and Shannondoc policies.
- Ensure high standards of patient safety and confidentiality.
- Engage in continuous professional development and ongoing training.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- NMBI Registered General Nurse (RGN) with minimum 3 years post-registration experience.
- Strong clinical decision-making and assessment skills.
- Recent experience or qualification in one or more of the following:
- Accident & Emergency
- Paediatrics
- Practice Nursing
- Obstetrics
- Mental Health
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and professional phone etiquette.
- Basic IT proficiency, with knowledge of Microsoft Office desirable.
Preferred
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a remote clinical team.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
