We are seeking an exceptional Principal Specialist Psychologist to join our innovative Neuromuscular Research Project team in Dublin, delivering cutting-edge psychological care to children with complex neuromuscular conditions.

About the Role

As Principal Specialist Psychologist for our Neuromuscular Research Project, you will lead psychological assessment, intervention, and research initiatives for children and families affected by neuromuscular disorders. This senior position combines clinical excellence with research leadership, working within a multidisciplinary team to advance evidence-based psychological care in pediatric neuromuscular medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive psychological assessments for children with neuromuscular conditions and their families
  • Develop and implement specialized psychological interventions tailored to neuromuscular disorder populations
  • Conduct high-quality research studies contributing to the evidence base in pediatric neuromuscular psychology
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychology trainees and junior staff members
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including neurologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists
  • Develop and deliver training programs for healthcare professionals on psychological aspects of neuromuscular conditions
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives within the neuromuscular program

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent qualification recognized by PSI
  • Full registration with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in pediatric clinical psychology
  • Demonstrated expertise in neuropsychology and/or pediatric chronic illness psychology
  • Experience in research methodology, data analysis, and academic writing
  • Strong understanding of neuromuscular disorders in children and their psychological impact

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialist training or experience in pediatric neuropsychology
  • Previous experience working with neuromuscular disorder populations
  • Track record of published research in relevant areas
  • Experience in clinical supervision and training delivery
  • Knowledge of family systems therapy approaches
  • Experience with grant writing and research funding applications
