IT Engineer Grade V – Healthcare Systems – Limerick | HSE

University Hospital Limerick, part of Ireland’s Health Service Executive (HSE), is seeking a dedicated Grade V IT Engineer to join our healthcare technology team. About the Role

As a Grade V IT Engineer specializing in healthcare systems, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and developing the technological backbone that supports patient care at University Hospital Limerick. This position involves working with specialized medical equipment, clinical information systems, and ensuring seamless IT operations in a fast-paced healthcare environment. You will report to the Head of IT and collaborate with clinical staff to optimize technology solutions that directly impact patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot healthcare-specific IT systems including clinical information systems, medical imaging networks, and patient management databases
  • Provide technical support for medical devices and specialized healthcare equipment integration with hospital IT infrastructure
  • Implement and monitor cybersecurity protocols specific to healthcare environments ensuring GDPR and patient data protection compliance
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to optimize workflow through technology solutions and system improvements
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and business continuity for critical healthcare systems
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, networks, and workstations across clinical and administrative areas
  • Document technical procedures and maintain detailed records of system configurations specific to healthcare compliance requirements

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Third-level qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in IT support and systems administration, preferably in healthcare environment
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, network administration, and database management
  • Understanding of healthcare IT compliance requirements including data protection and patient confidentiality protocols
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in critical healthcare situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with healthcare information systems (HIS), Electronic Health Records (EHR), or medical imaging systems (PACS)
  • Knowledge of medical device integration and HL7 messaging standards
  • Relevant IT certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA) with healthcare IT specialization
  • Previous experience working in hospital or healthcare IT environments
