We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate for our Neurology department at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate in Neurology, you will provide expert nursing care to patients with neurological conditions while developing advanced specialist skills. Working within our dedicated Neurology unit, you will contribute to the delivery of evidence-based care for patients with complex neurological presentations including stroke, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing care to patients with neurological conditions in acute and post-acute settings
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized care plans for neurological patients
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including neurologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists
- Demonstrate clinical leadership in neurological nursing practices and protocols
- Mentor and educate junior nursing staff in neurology-specific care techniques
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the neurology department
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to audit activities in neurological care
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Minimum 3 years post-registration nursing experience
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Acute Medicine/Neurology
- Experience in neurological assessment and management of neurological conditions
- Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in neurology or related specialist area
- Experience in stroke care pathways and neurological rehabilitation
- Knowledge of neurological diagnostic procedures and assessments
- Previous experience in teaching or mentoring nursing staff
- Continuing professional development in neurological nursing
