University Hospital Limerick, part of the HSE Mid West region, is seeking an experienced Chief I Cardiac Physiologist to join our specialized Cardiac Unit. This permanent wholetime senior position offers the opportunity to lead cardiac diagnostic services in one of Ireland’s leading tertiary hospitals.
About the Role
As Chief I Cardiac Physiologist at University Hospital Limerick, you will provide clinical leadership in cardiac physiology services, overseeing advanced diagnostic procedures and mentoring junior staff. This senior role involves managing complex cardiac investigations, ensuring service excellence, and contributing to the development of cardiac care protocols within our busy cardiac unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage cardiac physiology services including ECG, echocardiography, stress testing, and Holter monitoring
- Perform complex cardiac diagnostic procedures and interpret results with clinical correlation
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior cardiac physiologists and trainee staff
- Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care
- Develop and implement quality assurance protocols for cardiac physiology equipment and procedures
- Participate in research initiatives and contribute to evidence-based practice improvements
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards, health and safety regulations, and professional guidelines
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent qualification recognized by CORU
- Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council)
- Minimum 5+ years experience in cardiac physiology with senior/supervisory experience
- Advanced competency in all cardiac physiology modalities including echocardiography
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications in cardiac physiology or related specialty
- Experience in cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures
- Research experience and publications in cardiac physiology
- Training and education delivery experience
- Quality improvement and service development experience
