About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our dedicated team at Wexford General Hospital, providing specialized gastroenterology services alongside general medicine expertise. This 37-hour per week permanent position offers the opportunity to shape patient care and clinical excellence in the Dublin and South East region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive gastroenterology consultation services including endoscopic procedures, diagnostic assessments, and specialized treatment plans
- Deliver high-quality general medical care across a broad range of conditions and patient populations
- Lead and manage complex gastroenterological cases requiring advanced clinical expertise and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, NCHDs, and trainees in gastroenterology and general medicine practices
- Participate in on-call rotas and emergency gastroenterology services as required by the department
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance within the gastroenterology unit
- Engage in teaching, research, and continuing professional development activities in gastroenterology and general medicine
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Full registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) with specialist registration in Gastroenterology
- FRCPI, FRCP (UK), or equivalent higher specialist qualification in Gastroenterology
- Minimum 6 years post-graduate experience with significant gastroenterology specialty training
- Advanced competency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures
- Current certification in Advanced Life Support and relevant gastroenterology emergency procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Subspecialty expertise in areas such as inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, or advanced endoscopy
- Experience in academic medicine, research, or clinical trials in gastroenterology
- Leadership experience in gastroenterology service development or quality improvement initiatives
- Additional qualifications in general internal medicine or related specialties
