About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon Waterford to join our dynamic medical team at University Hospital Waterford. This permanent wholetime position offers 37 hours per week of specialized ophthalmic surgery and patient care in a leading healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex ophthalmic surgical procedures including cataract, retinal, and corneal surgeries
- Provide comprehensive eye care consultations and diagnostic services
- Lead multidisciplinary patient care teams in ophthalmology department
- Participate in on-call rotations and emergency ophthalmic care
- Contribute to medical education and training of junior staff
- Engage in continuous professional development and research activities
- Collaborate with regional healthcare providers across the HSE Dublin and South East network
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Full registration with the Irish Medical Council
- CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent specialist qualification
- Minimum 5 years post-CCT consultant-level experience
- Proven expertise in comprehensive ophthalmic surgery
- Strong clinical leadership and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in subspecialty areas (retina, cornea, glaucoma)
- Experience in teaching and medical education
- Research publications in peer-reviewed ophthalmic journals
- Previous consultant experience in Irish healthcare system
