HSE West and North West is seeking a skilled Cardiac Physiologist for our Cardiology department at Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe, County Galway. About the Role
As Cardiac Physiologist, you’ll perform specialized cardiac diagnostic procedures within our busy Cardiology department. You’ll conduct ECGs, stress testing, and cardiac monitoring while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and clinical excellence. This role reports to the Chief II Cardiac Physiologist and requires flexibility to meet service demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cardiac diagnostic testing including ECG, exercise stress tests, and ambulatory monitoring
- Manage patient preparation and conduct specialized cardiac procedures safely and efficiently
- Collaborate with cardiology consultants, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Ensure equipment maintenance and quality assurance protocols are followed consistently
- Develop junior staff skills through mentoring and clinical supervision
- Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to service improvement initiatives
- Provide emergency cardiac diagnostic support as required
Essential Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- BSc Degree in Clinical Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related healthcare discipline
- IBHRE certification or equivalent recognized cardiac physiology qualification
- Current registration with appropriate professional body (CORU when established)
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience in cardiac physiology or cardiology setting
- Demonstrated competency in ECG interpretation and cardiac diagnostic procedures
- Experience with cardiac monitoring equipment and diagnostic technologies
Core Competencies:
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for accurate diagnostic interpretation
- Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced cardiac physiology certifications or specialized training modules
- Experience with echocardiography, stress testing protocols, or cardiac rehabilitation
- Previous supervisory or mentoring experience in clinical healthcare environment
- Additional qualifications in related medical technology or healthcare management
