HSE South/South West Hospital Group seeks a dedicated Senior House Officer specializing in Orthopaedic Surgery for Kilcreene Orthopaedic Hospital Kilkenny and University Hospital Waterford. This 6-month fixed-term role offers comprehensive surgical training and competitive remuneration starting January 2026.
About the Role
As Senior House Officer – Orthopaedic, you’ll deliver specialized musculoskeletal care across two premier facilities under consultant supervision. You’ll participate in complex orthopaedic procedures while developing advanced surgical skills in trauma, joint replacement, and reconstructive surgery. This role reports directly to supervising consultants and clinical directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead orthopaedic patient assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans
- Manage pre and post-operative care for complex musculoskeletal conditions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists and occupational therapists
- Ensure adherence to clinical governance and patient safety protocols
- Develop surgical skills through supervised theatre participation
- Maintain accurate medical records and case documentation
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives
Essential Requirements
Education & Registration:
- Medical degree from recognized institution
- Current IMC (Irish Medical Council) registration
- Valid work authorization for Ireland
Experience:
- Previous NCHD experience preferred
- Foundation in orthopaedic or surgical principles
- Demonstrated clinical decision-making abilities

English Language Requirements
