About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Medical Social Worker to join our Acute Admissions Unit (Psychiatric) at Roscommon Hospital. This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to work within a specialized mental health setting, providing critical social work services to patients experiencing acute psychiatric episodes and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients admitted to the Acute Admissions Psychiatric Unit
- Provide professional advocacy on behalf of service users, ensuring their rights and needs are represented throughout their care journey
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that address both immediate and long-term psychosocial needs
- Facilitate family meetings and provide support to relatives and carers affected by mental health crises
- Coordinate discharge planning and community liaison services to ensure smooth transitions from acute care
- Maintain accurate documentation and case records in compliance with HSE standards and professional guidelines
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- CORU registration as a Social Worker in Ireland
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in medical social work, with specific experience in psychiatric or mental health settings preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention and acute mental health assessment
- Strong understanding of Mental Health Act legislation and psychiatric admission processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with vulnerable populations
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health or related field
- Experience working within HSE or public health service environments
- Knowledge of community mental health resources in the West and North West region
- Experience in multidisciplinary team working within acute hospital settings
