Cork University Hospital, part of the HSE South West network, is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager 2 to lead our Infection Control department in Wilton, Cork. This is a 12-month specified purpose wholetime contract offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient safety and healthcare quality in one of Ireland’s leading teaching hospitals.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated nursing professional to join our Infection Control team as Clinical Nurse Manager 2. This leadership position involves overseeing infection prevention and control protocols, managing nursing staff, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care within our infection control unit. You’ll report directly to the Director of Nursing and play a crucial role in maintaining our hospital’s reputation for excellence in infection prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Infection Control unit, ensuring compliance with HSE and national infection prevention guidelines
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff within the infection control department, providing guidance on best practices and protocols
- Develop and implement infection control policies and procedures in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Conduct infection control audits and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions as required
- Provide education and training to hospital staff on infection prevention and control measures
- Collaborate with medical consultants, microbiologists, and other healthcare professionals to manage infection outbreaks
- Monitor and report on infection control metrics, maintaining accurate documentation and statistical analysis
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification
- Current registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
- Minimum 3 years post-registration nursing experience with demonstrated infection control experience
- Previous management or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting
- Comprehensive knowledge of infection prevention and control principles and practices
- Strong leadership and communication skills with ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Infection Control or related field
- Experience working in an acute hospital environment
- Previous experience as Clinical Nurse Manager or similar leadership role
- Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures
- Computer literacy and familiarity with healthcare information systems
