Letterkenny University Hospital, part of the HSE West & North West Region, is seeking a skilled Staff Grade Phlebotomist to join our dedicated healthcare team in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. About the Role

We are looking for a qualified phlebotomist to provide professional blood collection services across various departments within Letterkenny University Hospital. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment while delivering compassionate patient care in a supportive hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures safely and efficiently across all hospital departments
  • Maintain accurate patient identification and specimen labeling in accordance with hospital protocols
  • Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
  • Provide compassionate patient care during blood collection procedures, particularly with anxious or pediatric patients
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and medical teams across the hospital
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of all procedures performed
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training programs within the healthcare setting

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Minimum 2 years experience in phlebotomy or related healthcare field
  • Current registration with appropriate professional body
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in acute hospital settings
  • Additional training in pediatric or geriatric phlebotomy techniques
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems
  • Irish language skills (Gaeilge) would be advantageous given the bilingual nature of the role
