Letterkenny University Hospital, part of the HSE West & North West Region, is seeking a skilled Staff Grade Phlebotomist to join our dedicated healthcare team in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. About the Role
We are looking for a qualified phlebotomist to provide professional blood collection services across various departments within Letterkenny University Hospital. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment while delivering compassionate patient care in a supportive hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures safely and efficiently across all hospital departments
- Maintain accurate patient identification and specimen labeling in accordance with hospital protocols
- Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
- Provide compassionate patient care during blood collection procedures, particularly with anxious or pediatric patients
- Collaborate effectively with nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and medical teams across the hospital
- Maintain detailed records and documentation of all procedures performed
- Participate in continuous professional development and training programs within the healthcare setting
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Science
- Minimum 2 years experience in phlebotomy or related healthcare field
- Current registration with appropriate professional body
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in acute hospital settings
- Additional training in pediatric or geriatric phlebotomy techniques
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems
- Irish language skills (Gaeilge) would be advantageous given the bilingual nature of the role
