LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice is the country’s only children’s hospice, providing specialized palliative care services to children with life-limiting conditions and their families. We are seeking a compassionate Staff Nurse – General (Grade 2135) to join our dedicated pediatric palliative care team in Dublin 18, providing exceptional care in our specialized children’s hospice environment.

About the Role
As a Staff Nurse in our Children’s Hospice, you will provide specialized nursing care to children with life-limiting conditions in a compassionate, family-centered environment. You’ll work within our multidisciplinary palliative care team, delivering holistic care that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children and their families while maintaining the highest standards of pediatric hospice care.
The position reports to the Assistant Director of Nursing and is part of LauraLynn’s commitment to providing exceptional palliative care services across the HSE Dublin and South East region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to children with life-limiting conditions in the hospice setting, utilizing specialized pediatric palliative care skills and knowledge
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and families
- Administer medications and treatments specific to pediatric palliative care, including pain and symptom management protocols
- Support families through difficult times, providing emotional support and education about their child’s condition and care needs
- Collaborate with doctors, therapists, social workers, and chaplaincy services to ensure comprehensive holistic care delivery
- Maintain accurate and detailed nursing records in accordance with An Bord Altranais guidelines and LauraLynn policies
- Participate in family conferences and care planning meetings, advocating for the child and family’s needs and preferences
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered General Nurse
- Minimum 2 years post-registration nursing experience, preferably in pediatric, palliative care, or acute care settings
- Experience working with children and families in healthcare environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with vulnerable children and distressed families
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized training or experience in pediatric palliative care or hospice nursing
- Post-registration qualifications in children’s nursing, palliative care, or related specialties
- Experience with pain and symptom management in pediatric populations
- Knowledge of grief support and family-centered care approaches in end-of-life settings
- Previous experience working in hospice, pediatric intensive care, or oncology environments
