LauraLynn Children’s Sunshine Home is Ireland’s only children’s hospice, providing specialized palliative care services to life-limited children and their families. We are seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse for Community Care services in Mallow to join our compassionate team on a permanent wholetime basis.
About the Role
This Community Staff Nurse position involves providing high-quality palliative and end-of-life care to children and young people with life-limiting conditions in their homes and community settings throughout the Mallow catchment area. You will work as part of our multidisciplinary community team, reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing and collaborating closely with families, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized pediatric palliative care in community settings, ensuring comfort, dignity and quality of life for children with life-limiting conditions
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with children, families, and the multidisciplinary team
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to families and community healthcare providers on complex care needs and symptom management
- Administer medications and treatments including pain management, symptom control, and specialized nursing interventions in the home environment
- Support and educate families on caring techniques, medication administration, and equipment use to enhance their confidence and competence
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies
- Participate in on-call services to provide 24/7 support to families during critical periods and end-of-life care
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in pediatric nursing, with community nursing experience highly desirable
- Specialized knowledge in pediatric palliative care, pain management, and symptom control techniques
- Current driver’s license and access to own vehicle for community visits throughout the Mallow region
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work sensitively with bereaved families
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in Palliative Care or Children’s and General Nursing
- Previous experience in community nursing or home-based healthcare delivery
- Additional training in pediatric life support and specialized equipment management
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in complex care environments
