HSE West and North West is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our medical laboratory team at Portiuncula University Hospital in Galway. This permanent wholetime position offers excellent career opportunities within Ireland’s largest healthcare provider.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Phlebotomist to provide essential blood collection services in our busy hospital laboratory environment. You’ll be working as part of our professional healthcare team, supporting patient care through accurate and compassionate blood sampling procedures. This role reports to the Senior Phlebotomist and Laboratory Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures on patients of all ages following established protocols
- Maintain accurate patient identification and specimen labeling in accordance with laboratory standards
- Provide compassionate patient care and support during blood collection procedures
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of blood specimens to laboratory departments
- Maintain detailed records of all procedures and communicate effectively with laboratory staff
- Adhere to strict infection control and health and safety guidelines at all times
- Support laboratory operations and assist with specimen processing as required
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Science
- Minimum 1-2 years experience in phlebotomy procedures in a healthcare setting
- Demonstrated competency in venipuncture techniques and blood collection methods
- Current professional registration where applicable
- Excellent communication skills and patient care abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in hospital laboratory environments
- Additional medical laboratory certifications
- Knowledge of hospital information systems and laboratory procedures
- Previous experience in acute care settings
