The Health Service Executive (HSE) South West is seeking an experienced nursing leader to join Bantry General Hospital as Director of Nursing Band 2 for Acute Service. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to lead clinical nursing services in a dynamic acute care environment in the scenic town of Bantry, Cork.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated nursing professional to provide strategic leadership and operational management for acute nursing services at Bantry General Hospital. As Director of Nursing Band 2, you will oversee clinical standards, staff development, and service delivery within the acute care setting, reporting to senior hospital management while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage nursing staff across acute care units, ensuring optimal patient care delivery and clinical outcomes
- Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols specific to acute care services
- Oversee recruitment, retention, and professional development of nursing personnel within the acute service division
- Monitor and evaluate clinical nursing standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice guidelines
- Collaborate with medical consultants, allied health professionals, and hospital management to optimize patient care pathways
- Manage nursing budgets and resources efficiently while maintaining high-quality acute care services
- Champion quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice within the acute care environment
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent professional qualification
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Minimum 5 years senior nursing management experience, preferably in acute care settings
- Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical nursing management at department or unit level
- Strong understanding of acute care nursing practices, clinical governance, and healthcare quality standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or related field
- Previous experience as Director of Nursing or similar senior nursing leadership role
- Specialized training or certification in acute care nursing or critical care management
- Experience with healthcare accreditation processes and quality improvement methodologies
