Community Healthcare Sligo Leitrim is seeking an experienced Senior Counsellor specializing in Addiction Services to join our innovative Integrated Alcohol Service team in Sligo. This permanent, full-time position offers €59,394 – €75,319 and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in community-based addiction treatment and recovery services.
About the Role
Join our specialized Integrated Alcohol Service as a Senior Counsellor, where you’ll deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions to adults with problematic alcohol use. This community-based team integrates with hospital addiction services to provide comprehensive care pathways and family support services across the Sligo Leitrim region.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized counselling therapy to individuals and families affected by substance misuse across multiple community locations
- Provide therapeutic interventions including person-centred and cognitive-behavioural therapies with emphasis on short-term intervention approaches
- Assess service-user needs and develop comprehensive care plans within multidisciplinary teams in community and residential settings
- Deliver harm-reduction programmes including advice on safer drug use, HIV and Hepatitis prevention, and health promotion
- Facilitate access to services for target populations within catchment areas through case management and care coordination
- Collaborate with Primary Care networks and Mental Health Addiction Teams to ensure integrated service delivery
- Support treatment programmes focused on addiction control and long-term recovery goals including aftercare and rehabilitation
- Address complex psychosocial issues including motivation, stabilisation, detoxification, relapse prevention, trauma, and relationship difficulties
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification in counselling, psychology, social work, or related therapeutic discipline
- Specialized training and experience in addiction counselling and substance misuse treatment
- Knowledge of evidence-based approaches including CBT, person-centred therapy, and harm reduction strategies
- Understanding of addiction treatment pathways and multidisciplinary team working
- Experience in community-based or residential addiction service delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced qualification in addiction studies or related specialty area
- Experience with integrated care models and inter-agency collaboration
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care approaches in addiction treatment
- Experience working with families affected by substance misuse
