HSE West and North West is seeking an experienced Senior Orthoptist to join our Ophthalmology department in Galway. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment with outreach clinic responsibilities in Tuam, Co Galway.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Senior Orthoptist to provide specialized eye care services within our Ophthalmology department. The successful candidate will be based in Shantalla, Galway, with regular outreach clinic duties in Tuam, offering variety and community impact in your work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive orthoptic assessments and examinations for patients with various eye conditions
- Provide specialized treatment and management for binocular vision disorders and eye movement abnormalities
- Deliver outreach clinic services in Tuam, Co Galway, ensuring accessible eye care for the community
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and multidisciplinary teams to develop optimal patient care plans
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation in accordance with HSE standards
- Participate in continuous professional development and evidence-based practice initiatives
- Support junior staff and students through mentoring and clinical supervision
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Orthoptics from a recognized institution
- Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council)
- Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification experience in orthoptics
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Ophthalmology as relevant to the role
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in outreach or community-based eye care services
- Additional specialized training in pediatric orthoptics or low vision
- Leadership or supervisory experience in healthcare settings
- Experience working within the Irish healthcare system
