University Hospital Limerick, part of the HSE Mid West region, is seeking a Consultant Urologist to join our dedicated Urology Department. This permanent wholetime position offers an exceptional opportunity to provide specialist urological care across Limerick, North Tipperary, and Clare.
About the Role
We are looking for a specialist-registered Consultant Urologist to strengthen our Urology Department at University Hospital Limerick. You’ll join an established team led by Prof. Subhasis Giri, working in a state-of-the-art facility that serves the Mid West region. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development in both traditional and robotic urological procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive urological care to patients across the Mid West region including complex surgical procedures
- Lead clinical decision-making for urological conditions ranging from routine to highly specialized cases
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including oncology, radiology, and nursing staff within the Urology Department
- Participate in on-call rotas providing emergency urological services to University Hospital Limerick
- Mentor and supervise junior medical staff, registrars, and medical students in urological practices
- Contribute to service development including potential expansion of robotic surgery programs
- Engage in clinical governance activities including audit, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in Urology
- Full specialist training completion in Urology with demonstrated clinical competency
- Eligibility for consultant appointment under HSE consultant contract arrangements
- Strong communication skills for patient care and multidisciplinary team collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in robotic surgery or willingness to develop skills in robotic urological procedures
- Sub-specialty interests in areas such as uro-oncology, reconstructive urology, or minimally invasive techniques
- Research experience with publications in peer-reviewed urological journals
- Leadership experience in clinical or academic settings
