The Health Service Executive (HSE) West North West is Ireland’s leading healthcare provider, delivering comprehensive health and social care services across Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway. We are seeking an experienced Head of Service to lead our Older Persons Service across Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon, driving strategic development and operational excellence in elderly care services.
About the Role
This is a senior management position responsible for leading and developing comprehensive older persons services across three counties in the HSE West North West region. The successful candidate will oversee strategic planning, service delivery, and quality improvement initiatives while ensuring the highest standards of care for our elderly population. This specified purpose whole-time position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on healthcare services for older adults across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning and development of older persons services across Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon counties
- Oversee operational management of elderly care services including residential care, community services, and transitional care programs
- Manage multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care delivery
- Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements for older persons services
- Lead budget management and resource allocation for older persons services across the three-county area
- Build strategic partnerships with community organizations, voluntary sector, and other stakeholders in elderly care
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Third-level qualification in Health Administration, Healthcare Management, Nursing, or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years senior management experience in healthcare services, preferably in older persons care
- Proven track record in strategic planning and service development within large healthcare organizations
- Strong leadership and team management skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams
- Knowledge of HSE policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management or Public Administration
- Previous experience working within HSE or similar public healthcare system
- Experience in older persons services, gerontology, or elderly care management
- Knowledge of community health services and integrated care models
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for older persons services in Ireland
