We are seeking a dedicated Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our specialized Inpatient Trauma Rehabilitation Team in Cork. About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist to provide specialized assessment and treatment services within our Inpatient Trauma Rehabilitation Team at Cork University Hospital. This senior role involves working with patients recovering from traumatic injuries, requiring advanced clinical skills and leadership capabilities within the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive speech and language therapy assessment and intervention for trauma rehabilitation patients
- Deliver specialized dysphagia management and swallowing assessments for complex trauma cases
- Lead communication and cognitive rehabilitation programs for patients with traumatic brain injuries
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary trauma rehabilitation team members including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical staff
- Supervise and mentor junior speech and language therapy staff and students
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment protocols specific to trauma rehabilitation
- Maintain detailed clinical documentation and participate in case conferences and care planning meetings
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Speech and Language Therapy from a recognized institution
- Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council)
- Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification experience in speech and language therapy
- Demonstrated experience in acute hospital settings and trauma rehabilitation
- Advanced skills in dysphagia assessment and management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in relevant specialty area (dysphagia, neurological rehabilitation, or trauma care)
- Previous experience working within inpatient trauma rehabilitation teams
- Knowledge of assistive technology and communication aids
- Experience in staff supervision and clinical leadership
- Continuing professional development in trauma rehabilitation approaches
