About the Role

As an Executive Engineer with Sligo County Council, you will play a vital role in the planning, design, and implementation of essential civil engineering projects throughout the county. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage civil engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices
  • Oversee infrastructure development including roads, bridges, water systems, and environmental projects across County Sligo
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal infrastructure projects
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and technical assessments to inform project planning and implementation decisions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and community stakeholders on engineering initiatives
  • Monitor project budgets, timelines, and quality standards while ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff and support teams

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Engineering degree (Level 8 minimum) in Civil Engineering or related discipline recognized by Engineers Ireland
  • Professional experience of 3+ years in civil engineering, preferably within local government or public sector environment
  • Technical expertise in infrastructure design, project management, and construction supervision
  • Professional registration with Engineers Ireland (Chartered Engineer status preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in municipal engineering projects including roads, water/wastewater systems, or environmental engineering
  • Knowledge of Irish planning legislation, building regulations, and local government procedures
  • Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) or equivalent professional development
  • Advanced software proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar engineering design applications
