Join the Health Service Executive (HSE) at Sligo University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region. We’re seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to deliver high-quality laboratory support and patient-centred care within our busy hospital environment. About the Role
As a Phlebotomist, you’ll be responsible for performing accurate and efficient blood collection and specimen handling to support the hospital’s diagnostic and clinical teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in providing a professional phlebotomy service within a hospital or healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture and other specimen collection procedures in line with clinical best practice.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and correct labelling of all samples.
- Maintain and update specimen records using hospital information systems.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols at all times.
- Support laboratory and nursing staff with specimen transport and documentation.
- Contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide excellent patient care and communication throughout the phlebotomy process.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant qualification in Phlebotomy or a related healthcare field.
- Proven experience in providing a phlebotomy service in a clinical setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of infection control and specimen handling standards.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Preferred
- Experience working within the HSE or other hospital laboratory services.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Certificate in venepuncture or healthcare support (QQI Level 5 or higher).
