Join the Health Service Executive (HSE) as a Consultant General Paediatrician at Mayo University Hospital. This is a permanent, whole-time opportunity to provide high-quality paediatric care within the HSE West and North West Region.
About the Role
As a Consultant General Paediatrician, you’ll be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team at Mayo University Hospital, delivering comprehensive paediatric services across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. You’ll collaborate closely with medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to ensure the best outcomes for children and families across County Mayo and the surrounding region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led assessment, diagnosis, and management of paediatric patients.
- Deliver inpatient and outpatient paediatric care in line with HSE clinical standards.
- Participate in the on-call rota and emergency paediatric response.
- Contribute to the development of paediatric clinical governance and service planning.
- Support teaching, training, and supervision of NCHDs and medical students.
- Engage in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with community and regional healthcare providers to enhance paediatric service integration.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Full registration (or eligibility for registration) in the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council for Paediatrics.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., MRCPCH or equivalent).
- Minimum seven years’ postgraduate experience, including substantial paediatric practice.
- Proven leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred
- Experience in service development within acute or community paediatrics.
- Teaching or research portfolio at consultant or senior registrar level.

- Salary Scale (as of 1 August 2025): €183,951 – €245,073 per annum (per the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales)
