Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is seeking a dedicated Assistant Lecturer in Civil Engineering to join its Faculty of Engineering & Design at the Sligo campus. This role offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineers through innovative teaching, research, and course development within an accredited higher education environment.

About the Role

As an Assistant Lecturer, you’ll contribute to the delivery and development of ATU’s Civil Engineering programmes — from apprenticeship and undergraduate to master’s level. You’ll engage in teaching, research, and academic administration, ensuring students gain the skills and knowledge required for careers in Ireland’s evolving engineering sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and tutorials in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, and Environmental Engineering.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
  • Participate in research, consultancy, and development work.
  • Contribute to course design, assessment, and programme review.
  • Support academic administration and quality assurance processes.
  • Engage in student recruitment and promotion of programmes.
  • Maintain professional development through training and collaboration.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Honours Degree (Level 8, 2:2 or higher) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Three years’ relevant post-qualification experience.

Desirable

  • Master’s or PhD in a related field or in teaching and learning.
  • Experience in lecturing, online teaching, or industry-based engineering work.
  • Proficiency with e-learning platforms (e.g. Moodle).
  • Membership of Engineers Ireland, ICE, or similar body.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and project management skills.

What We Offer

  • Fixed-term contract to 31st August 2027.
  • Salary: €46,601 – €63,104 (Assistant Lecturer Scale, effective 1 August 2025).
