Join Portiuncula University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region, providing high-quality patient care across Galway and beyond. We are seeking a Domestic (Grade 4110) to deliver excellent hygiene and environmental standards in our hospital facilities.
About the Role
As a Domestic Services Operative, you will ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You’ll follow Infection Control, HACCP, and Environmental Health standards, directly contributing to the prevention of cross-infection and the overall well-being of those in care.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high hygiene standards across wards and hospital areas.
- Perform cleaning duties using approved methods, materials, and equipment.
- Dispose of waste safely and appropriately.
- Support infection control protocols in line with HSE policies.
- Report maintenance or safety issues promptly.
- Assist in general housekeeping and linen management.
- Adhere to Health & Safety and Environmental Health guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Experience in a cleaning, domestic, or support services role (healthcare or similar).
- Understanding of infection prevention and control.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards.
Preferred
- Previous hospital or healthcare cleaning experience.
- Knowledge of HACCP or similar hygiene management systems.
- Basic certification in cleaning or environmental services.
